About Controller Update
What Controller Update Covers
Controller Update is an independent website about licensed franchise video games: games built on worlds that started somewhere else, in films, comics, books, toys or tabletop games. That includes Star Wars, Marvel and DC, The Lord of the Rings and Middle-earth, Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy, Warhammer, Transformers, Jurassic Park and the long tradition of movie and TV tie-in games.
We are not a breaking-news site. We publish evergreen guides and explainers: play orders, series histories, how a game fits into its franchise’s canon and timeline, and how game licensing works behind the scenes. When something depends on a specific release, re-release or point in time, we say so.
Our Categories
- Star Wars – Star Wars games in story order, canon and Legends, series histories and where to start.
- Superheroes – Marvel and DC games, team-ups, solo hero games and their histories.
- Fantasy Worlds – Middle-earth, the Wizarding World and fantasy Warhammer settings in games.
- Sci-Fi & Film – Warhammer 40,000, Transformers, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, James Bond, Indiana Jones and other film and TV adaptations.
- Licensing Explained – how licensed games are made, why tie-ins rose and fell, and why some games vanish from stores.
Who Writes Here
Articles on Controller Update are published under the name Owen Calloway. This is a pen name used by a small independent editorial team, and we say so openly. We do not claim game-industry careers, studio access or insider sources. What we commit to is careful research, clear writing and linking to the sources we rely on, so you can check our work yourself.
How We Work
Every article is researched against official sources such as publisher and studio websites, official franchise sites, store pages and well-maintained reference sources. AI tools help with drafting, and every piece is fact-checked and edited by a person before it is published. You can read more in our editorial policy.
